Description

One of three of my latest fanbots, E.V.A. is a member of the musical automaton group known as “The Lovelace Girls”. Originally built in 1929, and fully operational by 1930, E.V.A. was built by American inventors Arlene and Dexter “Dex” Lovelace (two twenty-something inventors who had shared mutual aspirations to be the next Walters of the world) to showcase and promote their inventions. Together, they traveled around Europe and America, hoping for people to purchase their mechanical marvel. By 1933, however, Arlene became pregnant with twins, and the Lovelaces decided to settle down in France. By the time little Lawrence and Margaret were born, Dex had decided on building a second, fully-functioning automaton to help with the children. So as a surprise to Arlene, he built Nourette to be a nurse maid. Unfortunately for the Lovelaces, the late thirties were a terrible time to be living in France, so in 1938 they left France to go back to their home country, believing they had escaped the dangers troubling Europe. Peace for the family of inventors would only last for so long. In 1941, the Lovelaces watched as the war they hoped to avoid changed everything that they knew. As the government urged for citizens to help out anyway they could, the Lovelaces built one final automaton before officially joining the Department of War: Voxelle. A pitch-perfect mezzo-soprano. Dex and Arlene built Voxelle specifically to be donated to the fledgling organization known as the U.S.O. She designed to support the G.I.’s emotionally, psychologically, physically, and medically. Nourette and E.V.A., who did not want to see someone that they had began to view as their sister go away alone (and inspired by their automaton heroes, Steam Powered Giraffe), they decided to join the U.S.O as a trio of entertainers. And that, as they say, is history. The Lovelace Automatons stuck with the U.S.O up until it was originally disbanded after WWII, providing much-needed services to G.I.’s over-seas. Ever since their first show, they’ve been serving the military by entertaining through close harmonies, steam-powered shenanigans, and swing-style music.

TL;DR- I basically designed a group of singing, musical automaton sisters (*cough* fanbots *cough*) from the 1940’s who would do USO shows for G.I.’s throughout the eras, and this is only one of them. Whoops.

E.V.A. is based of the Andrews Sisters, the Marvel USO girls, and Rosie the Riveter. Voxelle’s style is Dieselpunk (Think Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow if you’re unfamiliar with the genre) and Nourette is based off of Film Noir tropes (she’s one part Hitchcock “Cool Blonde’, one part intrepid report, and one part cloud cuckoolander XD).

Hopefully, I’ll have drawn decent artwork of Voxelle and Nourette here soon.
